Melopoetica je termín používaný učencami a skladateľmi 17. a 18. storočia a opisuje vzťah medzi rétorikou a hudbou.
Melopoetica alebo musica poetica z gréckeho slova „melos“, teda melódia a „poiesis“, teda poézia sa úzko spája s barokovou doktrínou afektu (Affektenlehre) a hudobného pátosu. Dojať, citovo zapôsobiť a vzbudiť vášne je hlavný cieľ baroka so zámerom vyvolať povznášajúci zážitok.
